Case study · Artificial Red Studio

The brand was already there. It just needed a system.

A request for an artist website opened onto a larger need: paintings that change under colored light, no record a collector could keep, an identity that had outgrown its name, and an audience split across more than ten accounts. EWH Consulting organized all of it into one studio system without flattening the work or overstating it.

01 · The original request

The ask was a website. A website alone could show the work. It could not carry it.

What was asked for

A public website where new paintings could be seen and made available to collectors.

Reconstructed from the order of deliverables in the engagement's scope documents. No verbatim request is on file.
DocumentationOne canvas, many states.

Many paintings read differently under colored Govee lighting. A single photo shows one state, not the piece.

Collector pathNo record to hand over.

A prolific practice, with works reworked and retired, had no consistent way to connect a finished painting to its documentation, price, collector information and listing.

IdentityA series name doing a studio's job.

The Madd Seasons of BoUjEe MeDuSa named a body of work. It could not yet hold future work, pricing and a collector system.

AudienceTen-plus accounts, no center.

Active, dormant and duplicate accounts held roughly 7,000 followers combined, an account total rather than a deduplicated audience.

There was no collector base before this work, so the plan was to build the brand first.

02 · Strategic response

One system, not four separate fixes.

Documentation, identity, the collector experience and the audience were treated as parts of one structure. The light-state record feeds the pricing tier and the collector page; the studio identity holds the series and future work; consolidated channels point back to one studio.

Risk one

Flattening the work into generic art-market language: easier to sell, less true to what it is.

Risk two

Letting story and sensory intensity run ahead of what could be documented: memorable, but hard to defend.

Sensitive personal materialThe artist has publicly described living with MPD, her own term, and experiencing chromesthesia, a form of synesthesia in which sound is perceived as color. Both are defined for readers, never led with, and never presented as the cause of the art, the palette or the brand.

The same separation runs through every system below: sensory description stays apart from clinical claims, a pricing tier from an appraisal, a tap-linked page from authentication, and a staged image from documentation.

03 · Identity evolution

Two identity phases. A series name became a studio that could hold it.

When the artist asked for a new name, a further rebrand followed so the name and the brand actually cohered. TMSOBM was kept as a named series inside the studio.

Phase 1 · TMSOBM · February to May 2026

The Madd Seasons of BoUjEe MeDuSa

An early website, brand brief, visual identity and voice structure. Type: Bebas Neue, Cormorant Garamond and Space Mono. A named seven-color palette: Black, Deep, Teal, Red, Gold, Chartreuse and Off-White.

Phase 2 · Artificial Red Studio · May to June 2026

Artificial Red Studio

A studio-level identity: eight colors locked to hex values, Barlow Condensed with DM Mono, clearer voice guidelines and a rebuilt digital experience.

Electric MintVoid BlackDeep Teal NightCyan SparkHazard YellowBurn OrangeElectric VioletBlack
Carried forwardThe light-state premise, the three-register voice idea, per-piece cataloging, and most of the palette's color families.
ExpandedA named seven-color palette became an eight-color system with locked hex values.
ReorganizedVoice and disclosure rules, formalized into a public and never-public standard.
ReplacedThe TMSOBM typefaces, replaced by one condensed and monospace system.

Voice, with rules for what never appears.

Tone of Voice Guide v2.0 was shaped from transcribed interviews and the artist's own material. Three tonal registers, narrative, commercial and descriptive, rotate by context; they are writing registers, not separate personas. Every voice claim is tagged confirmed or flagged, a standing list sets what never appears in public copy, and clinical or causal framing of personal context is ruled out.

The mark was developed with the artist from one of her own tattoos, a triangle built around a central eye, with the music in the work added. The full lockup sets "Artificial Red Studio;" with the semicolon flush against "Studio" and the series name beneath in alternating capitals.

04 · Studio website evolution

From a series mockup to a nine-section studio site.

The delivered site has nine sections: hero, about, how it works, light system, tiers, collection, acquire, events and contact. It includes a 13-state light toggle, layouts tested at three breakpoints, links to all seven social platforms and Netlify deployment packaging. Delivered July 2026; shown here from the delivered files.

05 · Artwork and lighting documentation

If one canvas reads as different work, a single photo is the wrong record.

Documentation became part of the product: real photographs and real footage, described only in plain lighting language. The tiers and collector pages are built on this record.

Documentation and marketing, kept visibly apart.

For marketing, a prompt-and-review process placed photographs of the real paintings into AI-generated interiors. The painting itself is never altered, and every staged image is labeled as marketing, never as documentation of the work.

Visions in a real room: in-situ documentation, distinct from the staged images.
06 · Collector-page design evolution

How the collector page took shape.

Every saved earlier version in the project files is shown here. Visions has four saved files; each other work has one earlier file. Order and times come from each file's save date. Scroll inside any capture, or enlarge it to inspect the full page.

08 · Supporting studio systems

One repeatable path for every new piece.

The catalog, pricing, collector pages, NFC and channels were built to connect, so a finished painting moves through the same five steps instead of starting from scratch.

  1. 1Catalog entry
  2. 2Pricing tier
  3. 3Collector page
  4. 4NFC-linked record
  5. 5Channel listing
1 · Catalog and provenance

A record built for a practice that keeps changing.

A per-piece structure with eight field groups, applied to fourteen identified works and reconciled with the master spreadsheet. It accounts for works later reworked or retired.

  • Identity
  • Physical
  • Authentication
  • Sonic pairing
  • Light-state system
  • Pricing
  • Provenance
  • Media

Structure vs records: the catalog structure was delivered; filling every field and asset across the fourteen works was not complete at handover. Individual records are not shown, to protect ownership, pricing and provenance details.

2 · Pricing

Tiers set by how many light states a piece holds.

  • Tier ISingle-state works$800 to $4,000
  • Tier IIMulti-state works$4,000 to $12,000
  • Tier IIICustom commissions$10,000 to $25,000+

Research against comparable listings on Saatchi Art shaped the bands, with several AI systems used only as a directional cross-check. Works were then assigned to tiers, and the tier decides the collector page's structure: Tier I pages have no light-states section.

Framework vs appraisal: this is a pricing framework, not an appraisal. A formal appraisal was deferred as a separate, later step.

4 · NFC-linked record

A tap that opens the record.

  1. 01Tap a phone to the NTAG213 chip on the work
  2. 02It opens that piece's collector page
  3. 03The page shows specifications, sonic pairing and provenance

Record vs authentication: called an NFC-linked collector record, not an independent authentication method. Piloted and tested on one work; wider rollout was not completed at handover.

5 · Channels and social

Seven platforms, one studio identity.

An audit of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook, X and Snapchat consolidated more than ten active, dormant and duplicate accounts into one studio presence, with content prepared for rollout. The accounts carried about 7,000 followers in total, not a deduplicated audience.

09 · Contribution and capabilities

Who made what, kept separate.

Artist-created

The paintings, the artistic process, and the personal history, voice and statements the brand is built from.

Originated by EWH Consulting

The ARS color and type system, the voice disclosure framework, pricing tiers, catalog structure, NFC record approach, staged-image process and per-piece sequence.

Directed or implemented by EWH Consulting

The nine-section site, the six collector pages and their iterations, the catalog audit, the seven-platform consolidation, logo formatting and channel graphics.

Collaborative

The public voice across three registers, confirmed with the artist, and the mark developed from her tattoo.

AI-assisted, human-directed

Pricing research as one directional input; collector-page HTML drafts, with all artwork data confirmed by hand; staged marketing images, with the art never altered.

10 · Delivered work and status

What was delivered, and what is documented.

Status reflects the September 2026 records. The engagement has ended, and no further brand work is active.

  1. Completed

Brand identity system, Tone of Voice Guide v2.0, catalog structure and pricing framework.

  2. Built and tested

The nine-section studio site with its 13-state light toggle, and six collector pages, delivered July 2026. The NFC-linked record, piloted and tested on one work.

  3. Documented event

Social consolidation across seven platforms, carried out. One documented sale: Left Alone, May 2026, $5,500, within the Tier II range, through a direct channel.

  4. Open at handover

Wider NFC rollout, remaining catalog fields and assets across the fourteen works, and the researched channels: Saatchi Art, Etsy and Artsy.

  5. Not measured

No traffic, conversion or tap analytics exist for the site or collector pages. The Left Alone sale is not attributed to the site, a collector page or NFC.
